Deeply contemplating what to eat, as always.
The Back Story
Despite many sleepless nights at the library and some really pressing deadlines at university, something I always found myself to have was a bomb load of spare time. I don’t know why and till this day it baffles me just how much time I spent napping, Netflixing (yes, I have turned the noun into a verb), and having DMCs.
DMC: Deep Meaningful Conversations
Like with all things, too much of anything can make you sick. I had all this spare time, but I was so busy with nothingness that I found that when it was time to eat, I never had time to cook. This resulted in a whole load of Padrinos. Did you really go to university in Nottingham if you didn’t get the meal combo from Padrinos? Offer 13 on the JustEat menu:
Cheeseburger
Fries
Donner Meat (I always requested yogurt mint sauce all over mine- if you don't know, get to know)
Can of Drink
All for the sweet price of £3.50 (due to inflation it is now £4.49- sad times). It’s no wonder I never had time to cook! No joke when I say I relied on this meal combo for the best part of my first year at university but, by the time second year came around, Padrinos had fell off my JustEat radar and it was truly time to go to Lidl or Aldi to do weekly shops and get myself cooking. Albeit the fact that it was horrific for my health, take out worked out to be pricier for me in the long run because buying dinner meant also buying lunch, and well, the only saving I made was that, I was never up in time for breakfast.
My parents had always been good cooks and growing up I always ate whole. My dad always offered to teach me to cook before going to university but I always shut him down because I was always "so busy". Much to my surprise, I was lucky enough to have a good hand in the kitchen when I did start cooking for myself and I found it to be quite therapeutic and a way of meditation.
As part of my pledge in my first blog post (Step One: Understanding), I have begun to devoting time into cooking more as I really enjoy it. Needless to say, baking a cake will not fix your brokenness but good food makes for good company and you are the company you keep.

Culinary snobs are not welcome in this space!
I will very rarely make things from absolute scratch, unfortunately, I have not mastered that talent yet. I use a lot of online guides and recipes to help me cook and learn the basics of a recipe and once I start to feel comfortable with it, I tend to add my own little spin! I am welcome to all your comments and suggestions and am excited to hear your little tips and tricks for me so let’s make this an open forum! One day I hope to be a culinary artiste, but for the mean time, one thing I do promise is, even if my bakes contain powder mixes that instruct: “just add water and an egg, mix then bake!” or my pasta sauces come from jars, I will never waste your time with something that does not taste delicious- and that’s a promise!
Ya’ girl will always keep it real. There is so much more to a woman now than just her kitchen: we work; we go to the gym (or at least I try); we’re networking and I know some of my friends hold all of this down, and then some. It’s an unrealistic ask for us to- on top of that- make everything from absolute scratch. Cooking is most certainly an art form, but in day to day life it is not a injustice to say that yes, it absolutely serves the purpose of filling up the stomach in both an affordable and efficient way. So let me stop rambling on now and let my series begin. Ready, steady, cook!
