Makeup Revolution has undoubtedly been the most raved about makeup brand in 2018 thus far and for good reason. I delve into the reasons why and how I was encouraged to give it a good go before making my judgement.

The Backstory

Now you know me, every post has a back story. I bring back to your attention my best friend, Shaira. One of my first blog posts was an entry on how Shaira made her house a home. If you haven't already, read it now! Back to the point at hand, it seems her influence on me this year has grown far greater than ever before. Now she may disagree, but there once was a time when I believe I was more of a makeup guru than her, but over the past 5 years she has surpassed me on all levels and now, I hold her recommendations highly when it comes to what I put on my face from skincare to makeup. With this in mind, you can imagine how excited I was when she volunteered to try out some of her new Makeup Revolution products on me!

I've always been quite a makeup snob from when I was a lot younger. Much to my mom's demise, she grew me up on the likes of MAC and NARS (which was hella' boujee for a year nine student with no real source of income). My argument was, if it wasn't good enough for her face it wasn't on mine either! However, as time has progressed, I have slowly deterred from high end brands and have started entertaining the idea of growing my drugstore makeup collection. After all, 2018 is the year of SAVING!

Revolution Fast Base Stick Foundation

ree
"The easy-to-apply stick formula melts into skin, blending seamlessly to leave a fresh and dewy finish."

Above are the Fast Base Stick Foundations in shades F10 and F12. This foundation is the creamiest I have ever used. It glides beautifully on your skin upon application and does what it says on the tin delivering a very dewy finish.

ree
"F10- For medium skin tones with a golden undertone" "F12 – For medium/dark skin tones with a neutral undertone"

PROS:

The biggest product selling point is the fact that it is only £5 and is accessible either via Makeup Revolution's website, Superdrug or TamBeauty. What I love about Makeup Revolution is that it's a brand made for the people. For the amount of product you are getting in this foundation and for the finish it leaves, I would absolutely advise you have this foundation in your arsenal as it's cheap and cheerful. It will also suit those who lean towards a more dewy finish, so if you suffer from dry-skin, definitely give this a go! I have also heard raves about how fantastic it is as a contour stick, however I am yet to snatch one of the darker shades to see for myself!

ree
"Foundation just got faster! Launching in 18 shades and a range of undertones, Fast Base Foundation quickly perfects, contours and highlights your complexion."

CONS:

If you have really oily skin, avoid this foundation at all costs unless you have a fantastic powder to set with. What I found within my first few tries was that upon application it looked flawless, however it just didn't sink into my skin well enough and as I wore it through the day I gradually became greasier and greasier (highlighting pores and making my skin look dirty). With all new foundations, you have to give it a few wears before it starts to fully sink into your skin. In fairness, I did not have the best skin during the period that I introduced this foundation into my routine, but since my skin has cleared up, I have tried it again and it is a lot better however, I am scared of how this foundation wears and transfers due to the fact it doesn't penetrate the skin very well.

This foundation claims to match the concealer shades they provide, however I did not find this to be the case. It is difficult for me to find an exact colour match so I am having to mix both together to get the perfect complexion.

TOP TIPS:

With any foundation, the best way to get a flawless finish is by knowing how to work with it and what it mixes well with. Try applying this foundation with a brush rather than a beauty blender (if you are combination to oily skin) as the dampness from your beauty blender may not do much to to help with the lasting power- this was advised by Shaira as she experienced the same issues as me. The best way I can describe it is like water to oil, I feel like having used it with a damp sponge has stopped it from sinking into my skin the way it should have due to the formula not mixing too well with water. My other top tip would be to make sure that you set this with a really good powder. I use my MAC Studio Fix Powder (NC42) to do this as it has always been my holy grail product.

Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer

ree
"Lightweight yet full coverage concealer to cover blemishes, even skin tone and counteract dark circles, with a matte finish that won't settle or accentuate fine lines and pores."

Above are the two concealers that I own in the shades C7 and C11. When I first heard of these concealers I was urged to purchase as lots of my favourite influencers on YouTube were hyping this product to the max with it being on par with the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. Now I don't have that kind of money to be spending, so when I heard this here was £4 a bottle, I was off on my way to Superdug. Unfortunately, when I got there nothing was in stock, I tried to swatch everything and I definitely fall in between C8-10. Since I purchased these concealers, Makeup Revolution have released a further 7 shades and I feel like my under eye colour may be C8.5. Have you used it yet? Let me know how it wears!

ree
"C7 – For medium skin tones with peach undertone" "C11 – For medium/dark skin tones with a golden undertone"

PROS:

What I love about this product is how full coverage it is! Unlike many full coverage concealers, it really does a great job of not creasing (especially when paired with Makeup Revolution's Banana Powder). You also run the risk of having your under eyes look very concealer heavy however, this sinks into the skin so smoothly that you can barely even tell! The applicator is very chunky and big which I love (very similar to the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb). The reason why I particularly like this is because for years, my go to concealer was the LA Girl. Whilst I loved that applicator for under and around my eyebrows, I found it to be extremely difficult to work especially with having to squeeze the product out into the brush.

ree
"Long wearing intense pigment that can also be used to contour and add definition"

CONS:

After owning the C11 concealer for around 2 months (bearing in mind, I don't wear makeup on a daily basis), I have found it to have dried out in consistency. I used to dip the applicator into the tub and the return would be juicy, whereas now, I feel like I'm having to swipe the remnants off the side of the bottle to get some product. For the C7, I have had it for the best part of a month and it is now beginning to do the same though it's not reached the same dryness levels as C11.

TOP TIPS:

Bake and set your under eyes with Makeup Revolution's Banana Powder (£5).

Revolution Re-Loaded Palette

This final product does not need a pros, cons or top tips section. JUST LOOK AT IT! This is my palette above which you can see has had a little bit of a seeing to since purchasing. Makeup Revolution carry this palette in three variations and I believe I own the palette in Iconic Fever. I wear my makeup very naturally and whenever I do go for a heavier look I will only really work with browns so this works as such a treat for me!

The colours are very highly pigmented and once friction is applied, you can most certainly feel the powder gaining a creamier consistency. All of this at an astonishing £4. Is it not just unbelievable?

The swatches above are mine and just an example to show you the wear of the shadows. I very rarely go for the shimmer shades but look at the colour pay off for all of these!

The Roundup

ree
The first time I tried the Fast Base Stick Foundation in shade F12

So, the general consensus is that I absolutely love these products. Apart from perhaps coming out with a foundation stick line for oily skin types, I think Makeup Revolution have done well here! Not only is the makeup good in quality overall, but the price just draws me. Now that I have grown older, I seldom wear makeup on a day to day basis.

Being a mix of "high-end makeup collector" and "non-user of makeup on a daily basis" makes it hurt just that little bit more when you dig into your pockets to fork out half a bill for an eyeshadow palette or a foundation.

All the items added together in this review comes to a whopping £22! Is that insane, or is that insane? It's absolutely no wonder why the year nines of this generation did not go through the struggle that my generation did when we were once that young. When makeup is this accessible and this good, it's almost a crime to not clean up well!

Ladies (and good sir's reading this post), if you're balling on a budget but can't afford to lose your fleek, start with these products and be sure to let me know what other things you have experimented with!
